AGGELAKIS supports the research work of the Benaki Phytopathological Institute

With the principles of sustainable development and circular economy at the core of its philosophy, AGGELAKIS is partnering with the Benaki Phytopathological Institute (BPI) to implement e-Reuse – an ambitious research project that aims to significantly enhance the utilization of livestock and poultry organic waste in agriculture.

This three-year project is being conducted by the Laboratory of Non-Parasitic Diseases, Soil Resources and Geoinformatics of the BPI’s Scientific Department of Phytopathology. Its main objective is the safe reuse of these organic materials in cultivated land in the Evia region, ensuring both soil protection and enrichment with organic matter, as well as the safety of the food produced.

AGGELAKIS actively contributes to the project by providing not only some of its privately-owned land in Evia but also raw materials—specifically manure from its poultry farms. As part of the research, the team will identify the most suitable crops for optimal utilization of poultry manure, while also mapping approximately 4,000 stremmas (400 hectares) of land to determine which areas require reinforcement with organic and inorganic elements. This will help maximize the efficient and appropriate use of the available raw materials.

In recent years, AGGELAKIS has been working closely with the country’s academic and scientific communities and could not but support this initiative, which promises multiple benefits for Evia’s agricultural production and will bring about significant changes in the management of livestock and poultry waste—for the benefit of both farmers and the environment.
