Thanos Aggelakis: From the past to the future of Greek poultry farming

In an in-depth interview with newsit.gr and journalist Mary Papakonstantinou, Thanos Aggelakis, CEO of Aggelakis S.A., discusses the company’s poultry products, its humble beginnings, its growing presence abroad, and his personal connection to the arts.

This year, the company’s sales are expected to reach €28 million, strengthening its position both in the Greek market and internationally—with its export footprint already spanning from the Czech Republic and Hungary to Austria and Dubai.

However, nearly 60 years ago, when the company first began, conditions were difficult and competition from well-established poultry producers such as Mimikos and Vochtas was fierce.

Looking back, Mr. Aggelakis recounts the challenges of the 1960s, the rise and fall of major poultry companies, and the opportunity that allowed a small family enterprise to take a bold step forward. He also reflects on the company’s connection to the Mimikos brand and the serendipitous moment that led Aggelakis poultry to make its way onto supermarket shelves.

In addition, Mr. Aggelakis shares his deep appreciation for the arts and explains why he asked renowned Greek painter Alekos Fassianos to design the company’s logo. He also reveals plans for future collaborations with prominent visual artists.
