– Scientific lecture titled: “Chicken: A functional food, ally to health”
AGGELAKIS S.A., which this year celebrates 60 years of active presence in the poultry sector, participated in the 60th Panhellenic Pediatric Conference held in Thessaloniki from June 3 to 5, under the auspices of the Hellenic Pediatric Society.
As part of the conference’s scientific program, AGGELAKIS delivered a lecture titled “Chicken: A functional food, ally to health”, aiming to offer pediatricians and pediatric students reliable and evidence-based information on the nutritional value of poultry, the animal welfare standards followed in the company’s farming practices, and the unique nutritional benefits of the OliVchicken product range.
The speakers were Ms. Rena I. Kosti, Associate Professor in the Department of Dietetics and Nutrition at the University of Thessaly, and Ms. Maria Simitopoulou, R&D Manager at AGGELAKIS. The discussion was moderated by Mr. Andreas Konstantopoulos, President of the Hellenic Pediatric Society.
During the lecture, it was emphasized that compared to other types of meat, poultry is relatively low in fat while also serving as a source of vitamin B12, niacin, and other water-soluble vitamins. Its iron content is not negligible, particularly in certain parts of the chicken, such as the thigh. After many years of research, the scientific team at AGGELAKIS was the first to incorporate Greek extra virgin olive oil into the diet of its birds. Combined with Greek corn, this diet has led to distinct quality attributes in the final product. This, along with excellent farming conditions that fully comply with Animal Welfare requirements, has resulted in the creation of a functional food with high nutritional value.
According to research, OliVchicken is high in unsaturated fats, helping to maintain normal blood cholesterol levels. It is also particularly rich in selenium, a mineral that supports immune system function, normal thyroid activity, and cellular protection from oxidative stress (antioxidant action).
